After learning that the famous Australian explorer, Sir Douglas Mawson had spent two years at Cape Denison in the Antarctic with a number of companions who had fared quite well in the circumstances he decided to see if a smaller private venture might do the same.  Don, his wife Margie and a crew of five set out in 1995 to see if this was feasible.  The crew and yacht sailed home but Don and Margie remained.  This graphic account of  the couple's year at Cape Denison is based on their detailed diairies and logs and is study in grit and determination in the face of conditions that few humans ever encounter.
