From the title to the last page, this is a delightful impression of the laconic wit that has become one of, if not the main one, of Australia's character. The illustrations are a humourus depiction of the men and their surroundings at the Ballarat diggings whilst the prose lets a little light on the modes of thought, customs, amusements and phrases in vogue then that are not necessarily known to us late comers. There are in fact, 12 commandments.
