The Broken Sword of Justice is a concise, coherent account of the tragic events in the Middle East over the past sixty years. It is also a powerful and well-documented indictment of America's role in those events. Margaret Arakie has had a long and varied career with the United Nations. After working for the League of Nations, she went to New York in 1946 on the staff of the U.N. A year later she was appointed Assistant Secretary to the U.N. Special Committee_ on Palestine and went to the Middle East. She was on the staff of the U.N. Mediator for Palestine, Count Folke Bernadotte, and was later political officer on the U.N. Conciliation Committee for Palestine. Between 1955 and 1967, she worked on the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in Beirut, eventually becoming Special Assistant to U.N.R.W.A.'s Commissioner-General.
