Harry Kurnitz was an American playwright, novelist and prolific screenwriter who wrote swashbucklers for Errol Flynn and comedies for Danny Kaye. This play was first presented by Martin Gabel and Henry Margolis at the National Theatre, New York City, on October 21, 1958 starring Joseph Cotton, Arlen Francis and Walter Matthau who was nominated for a Tony Award. Directed by George Axelrod the show was a smash hit and lasted for 263 performances.  Columbia Pictures also made it into a movie starring Yul Brynner and Kay Kendall which was also a hit.
