There are four Detective Bouvet books and this is the third one to be published.

It is 1912, the year the Titanic sank and the year of the  First Balkans War. The intrepid actors that we meet in The Murillo Murder Mystery performing in the Sherlock Holmes play The Speckled Band are again on hand to help their friend Detective Alfred Bouvet. A young Quaker women dies in mysterious circumstances at the Goverment Chalet on Mount Buffalo in Victoria. Later there are more deaths which perplex the police, for in each case there appears to be no cause of death. The story is as much a whydunnit and a howdunnit as it a whodunnit.

Detective Bouvet  and his assistant discuss the case in their favourite cafe: "Lets try to analyse this," Bouvbert said, as they spread their legs under the cafe table. Arthur Slattery claimed toknow why she died. However, they were silenced by the killer before we could get to them.

Is the motive jealousy? Was mesmerism involved ? Is THe Black Hand operating in Melbourne? Can Bouvert explain these mysterious deaths? Readers will only find out at the very end...
