In a time of great and colourful advocates, none outshone Henry Winneke,  His finely chiselled features made him the handsomest of men - the embodiment of an 'Old Bailey' barrister.  A special Act of Parliament saw him appointed as the State of Victoria's first non-parliamentary Solicitor General and head of the Law Department and Cabinet confidant.  As chief state prosecutor he led the case for the Crown in many notable trials.  He has distinguished wartime service in the RAAF and ultimately became Victoria's first native born Governor.  In this painstakingly researched and sensitively written biography we see a gallery view of great courtroom dramas as well a an insight into the character and foibles of the Northern Fitzroy boy who became Governor.
